Such a beautiful, talented woman has inspired many of us. Her essense as a person and an artist has left many of us in awe. Her veiw and love of life was like no other. I am pleased to see such talented young people representing her so well.
I love the pleasant expression on her face, as though even through all her troubles, life is still worth living. It has definiteley captured her impact on the world and energies around her. She also looks determined, like she has a purpose she needs to fufill.
Your work with charcoal was breathtaking. Charcoal can make a peice look flat, but pairing it with the watercolour gave it a dimension like no other. But it is easy to go overboard, but you seem to be very controlled.
Overall, this was a fantasic peice. Congradulations!
Denise, this is absolutely gorgeous. Such an enormous amount of personalty portrayed through the vibrant symphony of colours. These splatters actually blend in very nicely with the piece, because sometimes using watercolour and charcoal can flatten the piece, but the fact that you have used intensely vibrant colours next to blacks acts as an effective contrast. I like how you have used reds as mid tones on the arm and blues for shadows that overlap the work you have done with charcoal. It's simple, yet very effective.
The pencil work is amazing too. I love the sketchy contours around the cheekbone, they are expressive but rather tight. You have very good control.
I'm not very good at critiques but this is so expressive and full of life, It is an excellent tribute to the talent that was Amy Winehouse.
